Future
THE NEXT TEN YEARS 2010 - 2020
We will eradicate reversible blindness in the worst states. In the process, we will significantly alleviate poverty in these regions. We will leave behind partner hospitals able to provide full ophthalmic services to the poor. We are currently doing this by:- Sending eye surgeons wherever they are needed.
- Sending ophthalmologists, optometrists and orthoptists to train paramedics.
- Sending English teachers. Paramedic exams are in English.
- Funding surgery for the blind
- Funding vital equipment, vehicles, buildings.
- Assisting educational schemes that enable local girls and boys to complete their education and become paramedics (e.g. the Akhand Jyoti Football Academy which currently trains 60 village girls).
- Linking all our partner hospitals to co-ordinate their outreach programmes.
- Keeping our volunteers in the field working shoulder to shoulder with the local hospital teams.
- Keeping the blind patient as the top priority in all our plans.
